As I am probably one of the few on here (if not the only one) who stayed up til one, and woke up at 5, with my eyes glued to the T.V. in regards to the election, and I know it is a common joke with Mouse that I am obsessed with politics; here is what you need to know about the election, so that you can understand why I feel lighter than air right now...:
The Projection for the House of Representatives:
Republicans: -27 seats
Democrats: + 28 seats
Independent: -1 seats
The Democrats needed to pick up 15 in order to control the house. The exact count is:
Democrats: 227
Republicans: 194
Independents: 0
These are CNN projections, but thats enough because most of them have already been officially declared with the secession of the opponent so...
Democrats have taken control of the house!
For the first time in 12 years
What this means: is that Bush will no longer be able to pass just any old law he wants. It means that the Democrats can start having a say in issues such as abortion and gay marriage. It means we can get legislation moving to pull troops out of Iraq, and get Rumsfeld fired.
As for the Senete:
Its tied at the moment: 49/49. The Democrats take control if they win the remaining two, Republicans regain control if they win the remaining two. If each wins one, then votes would be decided by the President of the Senete: no Cheney. In other words, we need to win the remaining two. They are Virginia & Montana. Both are within less than ten thousand votes, and Virginia might go to a recount, but both at the moment favor Democrats ever so slightly. *holds bated breath*
^^ I'll keep you updated. ^^
