Chapter #1: The Letter from Mari.
Michele bolted upward in bed. The dream had been so real that she realized she had broken into a cold sweat. The details swarmed in front of her, and as she tried to concentrate she felt them slip away. She groaned loudly. Man I hate when that happens.. She walked across her room and nudged her sister Erin- who awoke with a start.
“Whas-goin’ on?”
“Wake up. We need to talk.”
Erin slowly rolled out of her covers and sat up yawning. She never liked being woken up in the middle of the night. She glanced at the clock. 3:00 am. blinked back at her. Erin quickly grew annoyed.
“Ok- what is so urgent that you couldn’t wait 3 hours?”
Michele shrugged. She had never minded waking up at night- it was her favorite time of day. Erin on the other hand, hated night. She liked being with the sun, which was warm and light. Briefly wondering where to begin- Michele clasped her hands together on the top of the covers.
“Well- I had a dream. It was…well…weird.”
Erin suddenly realized that her sister was sweating and short of breath- as if she had run a long ways. Instantly alert she sat up straight and said,” Shoot.”
“I don’t remember much of it. It was dark- of that I’m sure. A..terrible battle had taken place- thousands dead…I saw there bodies.” Michele shuddered.” And then there was this tall blonde woman with eyes of blue ice who moved barefoot through the battlefield and she was crying and just looking at her made you feel safe- like she had some sort of power. She said something about Eriscors will being fulfilled- and that they had a job to do. That’s all I remember.”
Erin’s eyes grew very large at this news and then she said cautiously,” Well- it sounds freaky. Do you realize how strange you look? You’re all clammy- as though a ghost or something has visited you. “
Michele gave herself a little shake at her sister’s observation. It was true- she was shivering even though she was covered in blankets. She knew there was more to her dream- something about calling those needed...but then it was a dream after all. Nothing to it. She ignored the sensation of being called, or tugged by something far in the distance and put on a happy face at her sister, who had already laid back down.
“Ok, well I am going to go-(yawn)- to bed. Wake me up if you get any more….”
“-visions” Michele finished her sister’s sentence quietly; Erin had already fallen asleep again.

Like a film waiting to start in Erin’s head, the dream began to play. She saw herself – lying stone cold dead on the forest floor. Michele was ahead of her running toward a stump. A brilliant rainbow flashed out of the sky and swirled down to the ground- surrounding Michele and the mass of blue that surrounded everyone. It flashed again- and Erin woke up.

“Ok, something is going on,” Erin awoke to find the room empty. It looked like Michele had been unable to get back to sleep and had left her alone. Now it was Erin’s turn to try and collect her thoughts and feel her dream slip away from her. Drat! Now all she could remember was the brilliant rainbow….nothing else seemed to stay in place long enough and was lost forever.
Erin got up and changed into a T-shirt that said, “Soccer Chick” , a pair of cargo pants, a sweatshirt that she wrapped around her waist, and tied on her sneakers. As she finished, she heard Michele yell, footsteps on the stairs, and a disheveled looking Michele burst into the room wearing jeans, a tight fitting polo shirt, and also had a sweatshirt wrapped around her waist.
“Look..lla..look ou..outside..” She panted as she grabbed her book bag.
Giving Michele a very puzzled look, Erin went to the window and glanced out. Then her stomach flipped over. Their house was in the middle of some forest- none of her neighborhood in sight. Erin turned back around and saw Michele stuffing clothes, food , and a journal into her backpack.
“Where are we? and WHAT ARE YOU DOING?” Erin screeched as though fearful for their sanity.
“Don’t know- and I’m packing as much as my stuff that I need to live into here as I can. I doubt that the house is gonna stick around with us here”
“Whh..what,” Erin sputtered as Michele now was trying to shove in her pillow,” What? where would it go?”
Michele closed her bag (giving up on the pillow) and said,” I don’t know- but I have a strange feeling that we are on that world that I dreamed about or whatever.” She stood up and slung her backpack on her back,” Let’s go.”
Erin followed her sister out the room.

Michele was very glad that Erin wasn’t asking many questions. She had no clue where they were- and was just as confused as Erin was. They clasped hands as they got to the door.
“Ok- now listen. I highly doubt that we will be able to enter the house again.”
Erin looked as bewildered as Michele felt.
“But why?” Erin asked.
“Because you were obviously right. We have been called to that place that I dreamed about. I assume the house, which belongs on earth, is just visiting or something.”
Erin nodded.
“Well if we have been called- then we must be here to destroy that darkness! Lets fight!”
Michele shook her head,” I do not want to fight. I want to find a way to get home. We are quite possibly in grave danger here.”
Erin looked at her in disbelief.
“We have a chance at saving an alternate world or whatever- possibly one of the grandest adventures ever- and you want to go home?”
Michele inclined her head.
Erin laughed and said,” We’ll see.”
Still with there hands clasped, she stepped out the door dragging Michele with her- into the flighty forest of an adventure.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
500 miles away, a young man with black hair and crystal blue eyes listened and watched the girls fight.
“Ah yes. We shall see.”
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
As Michele had predicted, the house vanished as they stepped out of it. She had expected that- but she hadn’t expected the large flash of light, or the loud popping sound, or the piece of notebook paper to float down and land on the grass in front of them. Michele screamed and ducked.
Erin rolled her eyes as her sister screamed. She walked cautiously to the field and crouched down to pick up the sheet of paper. It was blank- but as they stared at it- words began appearing.
Dear three who have come,
I regret that I am unable to meet with you in person. I have been held here involuntarily. I know you must have a lot of questions. To begin with- you are on the world of Emari. Emari is a world that is parallel to Earth- and is alike in almost every way.
The major difference is that Emari is a world of magic. It has four species(or had until the elves were wiped out)of humans- and the animals are capable of mind-communication with mages.
You ask why you’re here- and to answer that I must first tell you about the grave peril the world is in. This world has fallen under the control of Pheonix (Erin whispered at the paper, "That's not how you spell Phoenix,")- a large Phoenix that has turned evil-hence the reversion of the o and e, Erin.
Erin yelped as she realized that whoever was writing on the paper had heard her say that it had been spelled wrong.
“I-uh..didn’t mean any disrespect or something..”
That’s quite all right.
“Umm-well please continue then.”
Very well. I am running out of paper anyway. I contacted you three last nights because I believe that you are the one that can help Emari during its darkest hour. If you do not want to stay- then proceed through the forest to the left of this note and you will find yourself back in your house. It will not work twice- so don’t take another step to the right or the left until you are sure of what you want to do. If you want to stay and have the adventure of your LIVES- walk to the right and there is a cottage on the other side of the woods which belongs to one who will help.
Michele looked at Erin and said,” I really don’t want to stay here.”
Erin rolled her eyes again,” You’re acting like a weakling.”
Michele stuck out her tongue out at her sister, “I am NOT a weakling.
Ok, stop you three.
Michele realized that it was the third time that they had been referred to as three.
“To let you know- there is only two of us here…”
What? Where is Krissy?
Erin and Michele gasped in recognition of their friends’ name.
I am going to have to go.
“What? NO!” Michele and Erin both cried out. The paper slowly began to burn up at the corners and fell to the ground in a small whisper of smoke before it dissolved into mid-air completely. The smoke spelled out four mysterious letters. Mari.
Michele turned in total disbelief to Erin.
“Krissy is here too?”
Erin nodded slowly. Michele seemed to struggle with herself for a moment and then said, “Well. Then I suppose we have to stay- at least until we find her.”
Erin nodded again-this time excitedly. They were in a foreign alternate universe- that was all they knew. Erin however knew something else- that they were in for an adventure- and that was all she cared about.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~**~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Krissy screamed against the gag in her mouth- but no sound came out. The details of how she had gotten in this cell were very sketchy. She was in her bed when this large ….bird?...had jumped her and stuffed a gag in her mouth and then next thing she knew she was in this cell. She was going crazy- she must be- to think of birds grabbing her and locking her up. She banged her head on the wall with a “thump. thump” but nothing happened. This nightmare didn’t end. She didn’t wake up. She knew nothing of anything, she was trapped in oblivion. A wide black abyss stretched in front of her- she was lost for all eternity. Then the darkness opened and she fell back along the wall- asleep …or perhaps unconscious in the expansion of black.
